Creative Commons and copyright

I thought this was a good time to write a post about copyright issues.
When you are online in a public place e.g. edublogs, you have to be careful not to take someone else’s work without permission, as this breaches copyright.

Many images are licensed under a creative commons license.  Most of the time, this means you can use the image, as long as you include a link back to the creator.

You are free:

  • to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work
  • to Remix — to adapt the work
  • to make commercial use of the work

Under the following conditions:

  • Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).

It might say some rights reserved.

If all rights are reserved, don’t use it.
